Senior PHP Backend Developer

Ably (pronounced ‘Able’) is an emerging fintech startup that provides financial solutions to people with disabilities.

Ably is a proud startup accelerated at Astound Innovation Hub. Over the years, the hub has played pivotal roles in incubating other successful startups such as Tespire LLC, Global Tax Compliance, Baiwa HR, BarandaR, and KindCoin.

We are seeking a talented and experienced PHP Developer with a strong background in building fintech applications to become a valuable part of Ably’s team for a full time employment. As a key member of our development team, you will be responsible for designing, developing, and maintaining robust backend systems that drive our fintech products.

The job in a nutshell

As a PHP Developer, your wealth of experience will be an integral part of our dynamic team, contributing your expertise to design, develop, and maintain backend services for our fintech applications. You’ll spend time on the following

Develop and maintain backend services for fintech applications.
Collaborate with cross-functional teams to design and implement scalable solutions.
Ensure code quality, performance, and security of applications.
Troubleshoot, debug and optimize existing systems.
Stay updated on industry trends and incorporate best practices into development processes.

Here’s what we’re looking for

Minimum 6 years of PHP development experience.
Proven experience in building and maintaining fintech applications.
Strong understanding of backend technologies, including PHP, MySQL, and RESTful APIs.
Experience with modern PHP frameworks (e.g., Laravel, Symfony).
Solid knowledge of database design and optimization.
Familiarity with version control systems (Git).
Excellent problem-solving and communication skills.

Bonus points if …

Worked in a Nigerian fintech startup.
Experienced in working with bank APIs, and proficient in building scalable backend architecture.
If you have built solutions for people with disabilities.
Conversant with Data protection and Compliance laws.
